Tribal women’s SHG manufactures sanitary pads to combat stigma

Jhabua (MP), Feb 8 (ANI): A women Self Help Group (SHG) comprising of 10 tribal women are manufacturing sanitary pads in the Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh to counter social stigma attached to menstrual hygiene of women in the village. Despite several objections from the male members of the family, the SHG continue to manufacture sanitary pads to help women in the nearby villages. The decision to manufacture sanitary pads was due to rise of disease related to menstrual hygiene of women by using cloth, said one of the women. The unit was started by a loan from Aajeevika Mission and there is now demand for sanitary pads in the villages, said another member.
