Kolkata (West Bengal), Feb 12 (ANI): While addressing media person at Kolkata airport Mamata Banerjee said, “People of this country are very intelligent. We admire Bhupen Hazarika, he is not only the good music director and singer of Assam but is appreciated all over the country. We respect him now when his family has taken the sentiments regarding Citizenship Amendment bill. I think we appreciate their sentiment and this Modi government should understand the feelings of the Northeastern people. We (Trinamool Congress) opposed this bill from the beginning when the agreement has been signed by then prime minister Indira Gandhi and Mujibur Rahman and the Liaquat–Nehru Pact happened at that time, then what is the need of this citizenship bill again, why they are changing the strategy every day and insulting the people in the name of citizenship amendment bill. We cannot divide the people in the name of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian; we want to see that every citizen of this country is honored”.
