People in Myanmar celebrate water festival to mark New Year

Tamu (Myanmar), Apr 16 (ANI): Hundreds of people in Myanmar’s Tamu town attended a water festival to mark the change in season and also to welcome the New Year. The annual water festival known as Thingyan takes place towards the end of the hot, dry season and it ushers in Myanmar’s New Year. It is celebrated with large number of people gathering together, splashing water and throwing powder on each other in order to wash away the sins of the previous year and mark a new beginning. Participants danced to loud music as water was sprayed on them. People from Manipur state also travelled to the town in order to take part in the festival.
