Kathmandu (Nepal), Aug 27 (ANI): Women across Nepal on Sunday celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan by tying “Rakhi” on the wrist of their brothers and praying for their longer life. Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival celebrated on the last day of Hindu lunar calendar month of Shravan. ‘Raksha’ literally means protection while ‘bandhan’ means a bond. On this day, people in Nepal also celebrate Janai Purnima festival when they tie the sacred string on the wrist and change the string they wear around their body. This festival is regarded as the festival to strengthen the bond in between brothers and sisters. On their part, the brother pledges to protect his sisters' honour and gifts her as a token of the bonding.
